Statues of sprint king Usain Bolt and queen Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce will be mounted at the National Stadium Statue Park by next year.

The statues, which are among four that will be built, are expected to be completed in time for the Jamaica 55 Independence celebrations in 2017.

Sport Minister Olivia Grange said statues of Bolt, Veronica Campbell-Brown, Fraser-Pryce and Asafa Powell will be made over the next two years.

The statues of Veronica Campbell-Brown and Asafa Powell will be completed for the following year.

They will be mounted at the National Stadium Statue Park as part of a wider planned development of the stadium complex, which includes the National Sport Museum.

Grange said that statues are in recognition of the athletes' outstanding contribution to the development of Jamaican track and field.
