Assistant Commissioner Derrick Knight

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Derrick Knight, Commanding Officer for the Police Area Five Division, said the voice notes in circulation promising a bloody Christmas in Spanish Town, St Catherine, are part of an elaborate hoax.

“I believe the voice notes are a hoax. That’s the assessment from where I sit,” Knight told THE STAR today.

“It’s about 10 of them that’s going around. I think it has caused the fear level to go up in Spanish Town, and because  of that, we have increased our presence in the space, both the police and Jamaica Defence Force, to reassure the public,” Knight said.

When asked if the creators of the voice notes will be charged for creating public mischief, Knight said the Criminal Investigation Branch is still reviewing the voice notes, and they will act on any evidence advanced.
