Commissioner of  Police Dr Carl Williams has been instructed to conduct a quick and thorough investigation into allegations of extrajudicial killings and other forms of corruption in the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).

Minister of National Security Robert Montague ordered the probe following claims made by a former cop in a video which that has been posted on social media.

Montague has brought the matter to the attention of the Commissioner of Police and the Chairman of the Police Services Commission.

He said Commissioner Williams should develop a plan of action to address the charges, if they are found to be valid.

Describing the JCF as a "corrupt, criminal entity", the former cop said that senior policemen colluded with an east Kingston strongman to commit crimes.

The east Kingston man, he said, supplied guns to police, which were planted at crime scenes.

Speaking at a press conference Monday morning, Assistant Commissioner of Police Elan Powell confirmed that the man in the video was a cop. He said that the man was dismissed from the force in 2104.

Powell said a lot of information in the video is incorrect, malicious, mischievous and probably reckless.

Meanwhile, Montague said that the Government is committed to deliver effective policing services to the citizens of Jamaica.

“If we are to defeat crime and violence in the country, Jamaicans must be able to trust their national security institutions enough, especially the Police, in order to become fully engaged in the fight against criminality and the forces of lawlessness,” Montague said.
