Cabbie convicted of abduction and rape of 17 year old
A taxi driver, who diverted from his route and took one of his passengers to a secluded area where he sexually assaulted her, has be convicted.
The cabbie, 29, of Old Harbour, St Catherine was found guilty of rape and abduction in the St Catherine Circuit Court on Thursday. He is to be sentenced on January 27.
The man admitted to having sex with the complainant, who was 17 at the time of the incident, but said that it was with her consent. After having sex with the woman, the court was told that the cabbie drove to her home, dropped her off and left.
The woman then related her ordeal to her mother and a report made to the police. An investigation was undertaken by the Centre for Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse after which he was charged.
