February 02, 2017

A taxi driver who was found guilty of rape and abduction in the St Catherine Circuit Court has been sentenced to 25 years imprisonment.

The court found in mid-January that Loveroy Henry diverted from his route and took one of his passengers to a secluded area where he sexually assaulted her.

Justice Dunbar-Green on Thursday handed down the 25-year sentence — seven years imprisonment for abduction and 18 years imprisonment for rape. The sentence will run concurrently. This means that Henry will spend 18 years behind bars.

The court heard that in 2013, Henry who was known to the complainant, drove his taxi in which she was a passenger to a secluded area where had sex with her.

The woman then related her ordeal to her mother and a report made to the police. An investigation was undertaken by the Centre for Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse after which he was charged.
