$260 million to remove zinc fences

February 06, 2017

More than $260 million is to be spent removing zinc fence in 11 inner city communities.

The Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF), which will be implementing the projects, said criminals often use the zinc fence to hide and watch security officials.

According to the JSIF, the zinc fence poses a barrier to effective policing.

The 11 communities that will benefit from this massive spending of resources are: Hannah Town, Denham Town, Rose Town, Greenwich Town, Maxfield Park in Kingston and St. Andrew; Canaan Heights, and York Town in Clarendon; Steer Town in St. Ann; Barrett Town and Granville in St. James, and Russia in Westmoreland.
