Oil spill in the vicinity of Petrojam

The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) is reporting the occurrence of a major oil spill in the Kingston Harbour in the vicinity of Petrojam.

A team from NEPA is currently on site assessing the situation and collaborating with the first responders including the Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guard in the clean-up process.

The spill has extended to the Gordon Cay Area and clean-up activities are underway.

Preliminary information is that the spill occurred at approximately 10 a.m.

The agency is advising marine interests to exercise caution when using the area.
