Tropical Depression number eight turns into storm

At 4 p.m. the centre of Tropical Storm Gert was located near latitude 28.1 North, longitude 71.7 west, or about 810 km west  southwest of Bermuda.

Gert is moving towards the north northwest near 17 km/h and a turn towards the north is forecast to occur tonight, followed by a turn towards the north northeast by Monday night.
 
Maximum sustained winds are near 65 km/h with higher gusts. Slow strengthening is forecast during the next day or two.
 
Tropical Storm Gert is not a threat to Jamaica.
 
The Meteorological Service will continue to monitor this system.
