Alleged lottery scammer charged in St James

Detectives assigned to the Lottery Scam Taskforce arrested and charged a man for breaches of the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transactions) (Special Provisions) Act on Tuesday, August 22.

Charged with possession of identity information with intent is 31-year-old Dwayne Newell of Cornwall Courts, Montego Bay in St James.

Reports are that between the hours of 4 a.m., and 8:30 a.m., during a raid at Newell’s premises, two laptop computers, three phones, one notebook and two money transfer receipts were found inside a bedroom.

An on-site analysis was done on each of the devices and numerous files with names, addresses and telephone numbers of persons suspected to be living overseas were found.

Newell was subsequently arrested and charged. Investigations continue.
