Sheikh Abdullah el-Faisal

Sheikh Abdullah el-Faisal has been arrested by members of the Counter Terrorism and Organised Crime Branch of the Jamaica Constabulary Force on an extradition warrant in Kingston.

According to the National Security ministry, el-Faisal was taken to his home in St. Catherine where a search warrant was executed.

He is expected to be taken to court for a hearing at a later date.

El-Faisal, born Trevor William Forrest, is a Muslim cleric who preached in the United Kingdom until he was convicted of stirring up racial hatred.

El-Faisal was arrested in Kenya on December 31, 2009 after preaching in a mosque there. The Kenyan government said he was taken into custody because his reported links with terrorism made him a serious threat to that country.

Before that, he spent four years in a British jail after being convicted of preaching hate against Americans, Jews and Hindus. He was deported at the end of his sentence in 2007.
