OMI on Disney's radar - Nominated for two of the company's music awards
Recording artiste OMI may have been sidelined by this year's Grammys after spending more than three weeks as the number one recording on Billboard Hot 100 chart.
However, the singer might still have a cause to celebrate in 2016, this as he was recently nominated for two awards at the annual Radio Disney Music Awards.
The platinum-selling singer, managed by iconic manager Clifton 'Specialist' Dillon, has been nominated in categories for Best Song of the Year as well as for Best Song That Makes You Smile.
The recording artiste's mega hit, Cheerleader, was given the accolade Song of The Summer by Billboard in 2015, and went on to peak at number one in more than 15 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Australia, France, Sweden and Germany, among others.
Also nominated for Disney awards are other international recording artistes, including Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez and Adele. Organisers say the award show is scheduled to be hosted on Disney channels on May 1, 2016.
OMI's debut album Me 4 U was also released last year and was the only album from a contemporary Jamaican artiste to peak on the Billboard 200 chart. However, a negative review from Rolling Stone magazine perhaps slowed down the success of the project.
Rolling Stone magazine also came under fire recently after they credited Rihanna's dancehall song Work as tropical house record.
