Bravo's 'Champion' an overnight hit
Dwayne Bravo's single, 'Champion', has been bombing the airwaves into submission since the West Indies won.
The single, produced by Cornelius Daley/Dutty Fridays Production, was one of the slower songs on the rhythm as it relates to popularity. For months it lagged behind the success of Savage's Culu Culu and Razor B's Bruck Fimi Back.
However, following the success of the Caribbean team, Champion and its accompanying dance quickly went viral. Its music video now has more than six million views on YouTube. The lyric video has more than one million views.
Daley is basking in the success. "I feel good as a youth, that is humble, that this is taking place right now. It shows that music doesn't stop in Jamaica, it is worldwide. I never expected this because the song was recorded over eight months now. I was asking Bravo to promote it, and he said I must not worry because it must pick up," he said.
The producer/manager said Bravo's team is already promoting the single in the US, and he hopes its popularity will translate into sales.
"A lot of people have been calling me and I just want to big up every selector that supported us in the promotion of the Culu Culu rhythm," he said.
Bravo's manager, Shehan Rajaratnam, told THE WEEKEND STAR the song is a hit in India. He said it was strategically released during the tournament.
"Champion has turned out to be one of the biggest hits in India and now it's has turned out to be a global hit. Dwayne's energy and Cornelius' absolutely incredible rhythm has made the record what it is today. They knew it was a hit record the minute it was recorded and wanted to release it right away.
I had to hold them back until the right time and it was the World T20. It couldn't have been any better alignment.
Today it is probably the biggest song of the year to date. All possible thanks to Dutty Fridays Promotion and Cornelius," he said.
Cornelius and Dutty Fridays production are gearing up to release a follow-up rhythm, the 'Tangerine'. It will feature a single from Savage, Bleaching.
