Self-proclaimed Queen of Stage Spice recently returned to the island after performing at the Red Bull Culture Clash as a member of Jamaica's winning team. Team Jamaica also featured Kranium, Popcaan, Tony Matterhorn, Dre Skull, Jubilee and Serocee, and was powered by Mixpak.

Spice and the crew were able to give Jamaican fans a reason to celebrate by out performing hip-hop team Wiz Khalifa, Ty Dolla Sign, Black Chiney and Taylor Gang members in an exciting and explicit display of musical warfare last weekend.

Speaking with THE STAR recently, the top-flight deejay said team work was the key to winning.

"It's my first sound clash, and to be honest, I went in with the fear of losing because I was told that the audience was comprised of 100 per cent grime fans. Stone Love had lost that clash before, so I wasn't confident to walk away the winner. However, the winning result was because of team work. We came together and planned strategically on how to deliver each round," Spice said.

The sound clash comprised of four sound systems representing four genres. Each genre was led by celebrities who made their names recording that type of music. Judging was based solely on crowd response in a venue which pulled out 20,000 patrons on the night.

phenomenal moment

"I want to big up all my other team members, and I want to say a big thank you to Red Bull for booking me on this year's event. We created history and I am glad I was apart of this phenomenal moment," she said. "One of the biggest responses for the night was when I dissed Wiz Khalifa, but since he was representing the other team I had to diss them one by one. I was like a live dubplate and I went all out to make sure we tore the place up."

Popcaan, who was performing in England for the first time since receiving his visa, also received a strong response for his Drake dubplate of the Billboard hit One Dance. There were also strong performances from UK grime scene rappers Chip and Stormzy.

Following Jamaica's victory in the sound clash, Drake posted a photo of Popcaan on his Instagram page congratulating the artiste for the victory.
