D'Angel mourns father's death
After news emerged that the father of dancehall artiste D'Angel was killed in a car accident, there were reports labelling the incident as a hit and run. There was even a plea from a distraught D'Angel urging persons with information to come forward in a bid to bring the driver of the vehicle to justice.
However, police reports have now revealed that the driver did not run away from the scene of the accident.
According to the police's Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), the accident happened along East Street on the Old Harbour main road at approximately 9 p.m. on Monday. Reports are that a Toyota Mark X motor car was travelling along East Street when Clive Downer, 70, attempted to cross the road and was struck down.
Dispelling earlier reports, the CCU revealed that the accident was not a hit and run, as the driver involved in the accident was the person who took Downer to the hospital where he was admitted. After taking Downer to the hospital, the driver returned to the Old Harbour Police Station and filed an official report.
Downer, who was a resident of Young Street in Spanish Town, succumbed to his injuries yesterday morning at the Spanish Town Hospital.
A distraught D'Angel told THE STAR that the news has hit her hard as she was very close to her father.
"This is really hard for me because I wasn't expecting this. He was never sick, and to hear that he's gone now just like that, it's really hard," she said, fighting back tears.
"He was never an absentee dad. He was always there for me. This is really hard. I don't even have words right now."
Since news broke of the passing of the entertainer's father, several members of the music fraternity have reached out to express their condolences.
