Romain Virgo celebrates 10 years in music
The year 2017 is shaping up to be an extra special year for reggae artiste Romain Virgo. The singer celebrated his 27th birthday on Tuesday, and although he is excited and grateful to have lived another year, he is even more excited about reaching the 10-year mark as a professional artiste.
It may be hard to believe, but it has already been a decade since Romain Virgo won the Digicel Rising Stars competition. It was the year 2007, and Virgo was only 17 years old at the time.
Despite his age and the strong competition he faced from the more experienced, more mature singers in the competition at the time, his undeniable vocal prowess allowed him to dominate the competition from start to finish. Jamaicans fell in love with his voice, and young Virgo walked away with the title.
"Ten years is amazing. It doesn't feel like so much, but to achieve what I have achieved, and the love and growth that I've experienced over the years is wonderful," he said.
"The music and the fan base, the continued love that people show is a blessing and it's something money can't buy. It's an overwhelming feeling and I give thanks."
Virgo told THE WEEKEND STAR that as part of celebrations marking his 10-year anniversary in the business, he has plans to treat some of his special fans.
"There is so much that I want to do, and it's not just about the 10 years. We always try to give back, so whenever we have shows and albums coming out, we always want to do something for the fans to uplift and make everything grow and making people happy," he said, adding that he released a new song, Heartbeat, on Monday.
Outside of the music, Virgo revealed that he wants to start his foundation as he believes, as an entertainer, one's duties go beyond the music.
