Feluke responding well to cancer treatment - Performer in Mexico, returns to Ja May 20
Reggae singer-percussionist Denver 'Feluke' Smith is responding well to cancer treatment he has been receiving in Mexico.
The entertainer, who has been suffering from stage 4 colon cancer since 2014, left the island last Sunday for the Central America country to undergo a 21-day treatment plan, which got under way last Tuesday. After only a few days The STAR has learnt that the singer's body is reacting well to the treatment. Thamar Williams, a close friend of Feluke who is with him in Mexico, explained that he has been receiving the best care and doctors are particularly optimistic about his progress so far.
"We have seen some improvements since he started the treatment," she said. "The doctors say it's still too early to tell exactly how well his body will respond to the treatment and will know more next week but, based on how things have been going so far, it looks good."
Williams said the singer is in good spirits and is focused on getting better as the treatment continues. "Feluke is mentally strong, so even when he is in pain, he is in high spirits," she said. "He is still in a lot of pain and still has sleepless nights, but he plans to be healed and that alone drives him each day."
Feluke is expected to return to Jamaica on May 20.
She expressed gratitude to all those who assisted Feluke in getting close to the sum of money he needed for treatment but said that he will still need some assistance, especially when after he returns home. "We are forever grateful to all those who chipped in and answered our calls for assistance; without you we wouldn't't have made the trip," she said. "His treatment has to continue when he returns home. He will need to keep taking his medication, eating right and soi on and he will not be able to work, so we will still need assistance."
"We are not pressuring anyone, but if there are persons out there who still want to help, his Go Fund Me page is still active," she said.
Additional information on how persons can offer Feluke assistance can be found on the singer's Instagram page or the 'Heal Denver' Instagram account.
The entertainer is a trained percussionist and his songs include Soul Alive and Fine Wine.
