Shaughna-Lee Steele wins Gospel Song Competition
Portland native Shaughna-Lee Steele is the winner of the 2017 Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) Gospel Song Competition.
Steele won with the entry, Arise Mighty Warrior. Second place went to Dannareo Fearon with Order My Steps while Dycinta “Sister Althea” Nunes-Holgate got third for her entry Bawl Out.
A Titchfield High School past student, Steele, 22, has completed a B.Sc. degree in Geography and is currently pursuing an MPhil degree in Geography at the University of the West Indies, Mona.
Her single, Arise Mighty Warrior, is an appeal for more soldiers to join her on the battlefield for the Lord.
In addition to being crowned champion, Steele received a cash award of $500 000 courtesy of the JCDC; $100 000 courtesy of JamCopy for writer of the winning song; a laptop courtesy of Universal Service Fund; day passes courtesy of Royalton, White Sands, and gift packages courtesy of Palace Amusement, Bresheh, Bookophilia, Black Ink and May Sparkling Juice.
