EP coming for Lukie Niya
United Kingdom-born entertainer Lukie Niya has teamed up with members of popular Kingston-based recording studio Frenz For Real and is working diligently on his soon-to-be released EP.
One of the singles he anticipates to do well is Wul On.
Niya told THE STAR that he expects the song will be a crowd favourite, and that while growing up, he was exposed to different music from which he drew influence and honed his sound.
He said, "Reggae was due to my father, dancehall due to my sisters and hip hop, my brothers."
According to the 24-year-old, having stepped into the realms of reggae and dancehall, and over the course of his stay in Jamaica working alongside his cousin Shawn Bygrave, the reception to his music has been overwhelming.
Niya is the first artiste of Bygrave's young Musiq UK label.
Niya told THE STAR, "Thanks to the influence of people like Jovi Di Pree, Benji, Red Boom and Zarah from Frenz for Real who have all played a vital part in my development."
According to Niya, as time progressed he decided to stop writing and dabble into the production side of music.
"From the association, I learnt how to be a sound engineer, and then later I also built some of my own instrumentals. Look out for the EP," he said.
He recently did some radio interview gigs and performed twice at events hosted by Ninja Man.
Niya lists Popcaan, Beenie Man, Ninja Man, Mavado, Jahmiel, Sizzla and Singer J as some entertainers who have impacted his career.
He is also known for singles More Than Blood, Work and Yard Settings.
