Morgan Heritage breaks YouTube record
Grammy Award-winning reggae band Morgan Heritage is riding high with the success of their latest single, 'Hallelujah'.
The track, which features Tanzanian recording artiste Diamond Platinumz, racked up more than three million views on YouTube.com since its upload just under a week ago.
Hallelujah now holds the record for the fastest views on YouTube featuring an African artiste, a record that was previously held by African star WizKid in a song featuring Drake.
According to Mojo Morgan, the band first met with Diamond Platinumz in Rwanda earlier this year after sharing stage at the Fiesta Rwanda concert.
He explained that there was an instant musical chemistry which later gave birth to the dancehall-flavoured Hallelujah.
"The record has been doing well and this is encouraging, considering that we just started promotions. We are expecting big things from this project as we continue expand our brand to break into new markets," he said.
The band's publicist, Maliaka Lepine, said the track is one which shows off the group's versatility as they are more popularly known for their roots reggae songs.
"But the way they have performed over this pulsating dancehall beat shows critics that they are legends in their own right. This record shows the versatility of Morgan Heritage," she said.
The group has been enjoying some success in recent times with their album Avrakedabra returning to the Reggae Billboard Top 10 chart.
Last week it held the number five spot, this week it moved up one place to number four. It has been on the charts for 15 weeks.
Lepine credits their chart success to the triumph of their ongoing tour as well as the popularity of the new single in Africa.
