Trinidad's Boyaka Smash wins BRT DJ competition
DJ Boyaka Smash has been declared victor of the first BRT Weekend Strictly the Best DJ Contest.
DJ Boyaka Smash from Trincity, Trinidad, will get the opportunity to entertain the hundreds of patrons expected to attend this weekend's parties in Riviera, Florida. In addition to being given the opportunity to spin at the annual event, the deejay has been named a BRT ambassador for the 2018 tour. As ambassador, Boyaka Smash will get to attend dozens of launch parties for BRT 2018 with all travel and hotel expenses paid.
Last month, BRT organiser Hans Mullings partnered with VP records for the first BRT Weekend Strictly the Best DJ Contest. With the fourth and final staging of the United States-based BRT Weekend 2017 set to get under way today, the winner of that competition has been selected.
Interested DJs were asked to submit their mix, SoundCloud link address, a 60-second video clip, and social media information to firstname.lastname@example.org. From those submissions, the top five deejays were selected and their mixes uploaded to the BRT Weekend's website, www.brtweekend.com. They were then judged in five categories, including how they interact with the crowd, which was determined by a video of them playing at an event.
Fans then became judges as they were asked to vote for their favourite mix on the DJ's SoundCloud and social media pages. When the votes were tallied, DJ Boyaka Smash came out the victor.
Boyaka Smash goes to the turntables with a lot of experience, having played for the likes of Bunji Garlin, Fayann Lyons and Patrice Roberts. He will be joining DJs Tony Matterhorn, LL Cool Blaze, Dr Essan, Marlon Famous, Jazzy T, Eccentrix Sound and DJ Marvellous at the consoles this weekend.
BRT Weekend offers six parties over three days and with controversial female entertainer Ishawna being promoted as one of their main acts for this year, promoters are promising an energy-filled weekend. The event will also see an appearance from dancehall entertainer Masicka.
