Contractor gets international boost
The musical career of Jamaican deejay Contractor, real name Sean Edwards, is receiving a huge boost thanks to the success of the remix of Alonestar's single 'Outlaw', which also features Trinidadian rapper Tim Starr.
The single by Alonestar, whose real name is Jethro Sheeran (cousin of Ed Sheeran), has hit number one on the Digital Radio Airplay Chart in the United States.
Figures released by Spin Records, a company that tracks airplay in all genres of music, rated Outlaw as number one on the Top 40 Air Play Charts for hip hop and R&B music.
The single is getting heavy rotation on several radio stations in the United States, including Kbex 107.9 in California, New York's Power 102.5, Wild 103.5FM, 99Jamz FM, 99.5 The Mix FM, Wild 98.3 FM in Las Vegas, among others.
Alonestar is delighted with the news, and said he will soon travel to Jamaica to shoot a video for the single.
"I have always loved reggae and listened to the reggae legends since I was a child," he was quoted as saying in a press release.
Outlaw will be included in an upcoming album to be released by DJ Grid later this month, in association with Contractor Music Group and Amanda Records in the United States. The album will also feature inputs from Ed Sheeran, Sean Kingston, Wyclef, Mojo Morgan from Morgan Heritage and Damian and Stephen Marley.
