Richie Innocent nominated in IRAWMA award
Dub Poet Richie Innocent has been nominated in the category of Best Spoken Word/Dub Poet in this year's International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA).
"I feel blessed and honoured to be nominated for this award. This is the first time I have been nominated for an award, and I am grateful to the organisers of the IRAWMA Awards for this recognition," said Richie Innocent.
He also added, "This nomination is not for me alone. It's for all my supporters, my team and everyone who believes in me, my colleagues and all the great poets who have inspired me including Mutabaruka and Yasus Afari."
The winners will be announced at the 36th annual IRAWMA Awards which is scheduled to take place on Sunday, March 18 at the Logan Center for the Arts at the University of Chicago in Illinois.
Richie Innocent is currently enjoying much attention with his thought-provoking single titled 'Monster'.
"This poem was released almost a year ago, and it's still going strong. Everywhere I go people ask me to perform it," he said.
The former deejay has several projects in the works that will be released later this year.
"This is going to be a hectic year for me. I plan to release several new singles and an EP. I'm also working on a book that I that will be published later this year," he said.
