Masicka riding high on new single
Gennasyde recording artiste Masicka is scoring with his latest single, 'They Don't Know'.
The socially conscious single was released on the Gennasyde/TMG label on January 15, and racked up nearly a million views since on YouTube.
The song features a positive message that speaks to hard work and perseverance in the face of crippling poverty.
Masicka's rise as a dancehall artiste has been steady and consistent. He scored a huge number one last year with Infrared (My Dog Dem Haffi Live) featuring Vybz Kartel, and topped charts with Energy, the popular Ten Outta Ten and Roll Clean.
"Ah just hard work, I always knew that consistency was the key, I always had the lyrics so mi add melody, go back to the drawing board, reshuffle, and now mi a cover the grung," he said.
He performed on several shows on the east coast of the US, performing most recently in the Garage nightclub in Bronx, New York, and a club in Boston. He also journeyed across the Atlantic to perform at the O2 Forum in the United Kingdom.
"My favourite performance was in England because of the energy of the fans and the whole vibe, it was really great," he said.
The deejay has continued to expand his international profile scoring major collaborations with dancehall superstar Sean Paul with the Highest, and Fire in the Rain with Atlantic Records artiste Kranium.
He also said the new vodka he is endorsing, Crysp, is doing well.
"It is being distributed by Betco and the demand is building. It is being sold at an affordable price. It is for the masses, so everyone will be able to buy a bottle," he said.
