Safaree grateful for Diaspora award
Jamaican rapper and VH1 TV star Safaree was at a loss for words when he was presented with the 2017 Blue and Bougie Impact Award at the sold-out event at the Mingles CafÈ in the Bronx recently.
"I never got an award before... didn't even know what to do," he posted on his Instagram page hours after the show.
"But thank you so much for my Impact Award @blueandbougie. I could write five paragraphs, but it wouldn't capture how grateful I am. Thank you to everyone who's been rocking with the underdog #safaree."
The Brooklyn-based rapper was flooded with hundreds of congratulatory messages from fans on his Instagram page, which had over 100,000 views.
Stalwart singer and performing arts director Nadine Sutherland was beaming with pride when she posted on her Facebook page that she was elated to be among the honourees.
"I'm here feeling elated. To be recognised for your work on a Diaspora level was awesome. The Blue and Bougie Impact Awards recognition validated thoughts I had about myself as an artiste. Then, you receive the news that your reggae industry, the JaRIA (Jamaica Reggae Industry Association) Awards decided to honour you also. Bawling with pride! OK are you ready world? Please welcome Nadine Sutherland Reggae Icon Female 2018!!"
