Calabash launch tonight

Calabash 2018 will be launched this evening at the Redbones Blues CafÈ in Kingston.

The festival, started in 2001 by Colin Channer, Kwame Dawes, and Justine Henzell, has attracted some of the biggest authors and poets from across the world.

The festival is held in the rustic, calming environment of Treasure Beach, St Elizabeth.

At this evening's launch, organisers will announce the 2018 programme and also host the launch of Rachel Manley's novel, The Black Peacock, with a reading by the author.

Among the noted names to have appeared at the event are Jamaica's Poet Laureate Lorna Goodison, celebrated authors Marlon James and Kei Miller, the late St Lucian poet and playwright Sir Derek Walcott, and Nigerian Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka.
