Yanique couldn't resist dancehall
STAR of the Month Yanique Barrett grew up as a church girl, but she said she could not avoid her love for entertainment as she grew older.
"I grew up as a Seventh-day Adventist, so I wasn't at liberty to listen to dancehall music in my household. It was a situation where I didn't hear it unless I went on the road, so when I passed a little bar, I would do a little tick-tock or something because I knew it was illegal," she said.
Barrett says she prefers '90s dancehall music, but also enjoys music from the 2000s.
"I like the '90s because I have an older sister, like 10 years older than I am, so when they are listening to it, I was well in tune, especially that song Bogle. Jeezas peace, there was nothing to me like a Bogle. There were also outside pickney who came to the same church and they taught us dances and stuff that they knew," she said.
Barrett also told THE WEEKEND STAR that she still maintains a relationship with the Creator despite being active on the entertainment scene.
"I do love the Lord, and I am a very spiritual person. Having a relationship with God is very important to me. Even in my dating world, I would never date a guy that doesn't believe in God or doesn't pray and read the Bible," she said.
