Trial for man charged with tourist's death
A St Catherine motorist who was charged with the death of a tourist last year, was told that his trial will start in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on November 24, 2015.
Dead is Gwendoline Miller, 52, from London England.
Charged with causing death by dangerous driving is Llewellyn Riley from Central Village, St Catherine. When Riley appeared before Resident Magistrate Tara Reid-Carr it was revealed that the file was incomplete.
It was revealed that the certifying officer's statement was outstanding. Riley's bail was extended until the trial date.
Allegations are that on September 15, 2014, Riley was driving a Toyota Sprinter motor car with Miller on board. Upon reaching the Bog Walk Gorge in St Catherine, he overtook a line of traffic and lost control of the vehicle which plunged into the Rio Cobre. The vehicle was extensively damaged and Miller died from injuries received in the accident.
An investigation was launched which resulted in Riley being charged by the police. He has made numerous court appearances and has maintained his innocence.
