Parish council treats the homeless
Scores of homeless persons were treated by the St Catherine Parish Council last Friday.
More than 50 people were given free eye examination at the homeless shelter at Monk Street, Spanish Town. This was in collaboration with the Lions Club of Central St Catherine.
It was revealed that there are 56 homeless persons on the streets in Spanish Town. Some were taken in for treatment from the mental health department.
Chairman of the St Catherine Parish Council and Mayor of Spanish Town, Norman Scott, said care must be given to the less fortunate. He says that the St Catherine Parish Council, which accounts for the country's third highest group of homeless people, is doing something about it.
There was also a formal launch of the Homeless Shelter in St Catherine at the Emancipation Square.
During the function, entertainment by members of the homeless group as well the St Jago and Jonathan Grant High schools were thoroughly enjoyed.
