Attorney on fraud charge
Detectives attached to the Counter Terrorism Organied Crime Investigation Branch (C-TOC) last Monday arrested and charged an attorney-at-Law for breaches of the Larceny Act.
Charged is 56-year-old Howard Lettman of Nevon Place, in Mandeville, Manchester.
Reports are that, in 2000, a woman retained the services of Lettman to purchase a property. It is alleged she handed over $11.6 million for the purchase of the property, payment of stamp duties and other fees and taxes, as well as payment for his legal service.
Lettman reportedly paid over a portion of the money to the vendor, but failed to pay the necessary fees, resulting in the property not being transferred. A report was made to the C-TOC and an investigation was launched.
Lettman was consequently arrested and charged for fraudulent conversion and is scheduled to appear before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, January 15. He is out on bail, granted in the sum of $500,000
