Alleged scammers remanded until today

A group of men arrested for reportedly possessing paraphernalia connected to the illicit lottery scam were remanded when they appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Charged with knowingly obtaining, possession of identity information, being part of a criminal organisation, and participating in a serious offence by a criminal organisation are Lamar Lamey, Spencer Morrison, Shamar Cole and Necko Nelson.

It is alleged that last month, police, acting on information, carried out an operation at Oakland apartment complex in St Andrew. The operation unearthed several lead sheets with overseas contact information.

The men were subsequently arrested and charged.

The court heard that one of the men implicated in the matter reportedly answered the door, but did not immediately let the lawmen enter the premises. Soon after, lawmen reportedly heard the sound of papers being torn before being admitted entry.

Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey remanded the men until today when bail applications are expected to be made.
