Man accused of stealing car granted bail

January 08, 2016

A man accused of stealing a motor car was granted bail when he appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate (RM) Court last Tuesday.

Charged with larceny of a motor car is 42-year-old Cheddy Chambers of Chisolm Avenue in Kingston. He previously pleaded not guilty to the offence.

Allegations are that on the day of the incident, the accused man was accosted by the police on suspicion of robbery of the motor vehicle in which he was travelling. In court, the accused man's lawyer alleged that Chambers was in the wrong place at the wrong time, as he was unfortunately given a lift by the man who is alleged to have done the criminal act. The court heard that Chambers was previously convicted on criminal charges which were not immediately revealed at that point.

Senior RM Judith Pusey granted the accused man conditional bail in the sum of $300,000 with surety. He is to report to the Half-Way Tree Police Station on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays between the hours of 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
