MAN KILLED FOR PICKING ORANGES

The Linstead police in St Catherine have launched an investigation into the fatal shooting of a man who was allegedly shot by a security guard for picking oranges.

Dead is Romario Brown, 21-year-old, unemployed of Bog Walk St Catherine.

Reports are that about 7:30 a.m. security personnel on duty at Trade Winds Citrus in Bog Walk, St Catherine, observed two men illegally picking oranges from the orchard.

The men were accosted by the security guard, who was armed with a 12-gauge shotgun.

Brown allegedly tried to wrestle the weapon away from the guard, while his accomplice held on to the guard's neck from behind.

During the tussle Brown was shot in the leg by the guard.

He was rushed to the Linstead Hospital in St Catherine where he succumbed to his injuries.

The police have since taken Brown's accomplice into custody. His name is being withheld pending further investigations.

Meanwhile, the security guard's weapon was confiscated by investigators for forensic analysis.
