Boy beaten until he bled, father charged
A St Catherine man who is accused of beating his 12-year-old son until he bled was given a bail extension when he appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court recently.
When the case was mentioned, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges. He told the court that he does not have a lawyer, and will be defending himself.
Allegations outlined are that on December 25, 2015, the father had a disagreement with his son at home. It is said he destroyed the child's Huawei cellular phone, and also used a leather belt to beat the boy until his wounds bled. The child was then locked out of the house.
A report was then made to the Spanish Town police and an investigation was launched. This resulted in the father being charged with malicious destruction of property and cruelty to child.
