February 11, 2016

The St Catherine North police seized an illegal gun from a man travelling in a motorcade on Nomination Day on Tuesday.

The police reported that about 6:30 p.m., a team of investigators stopped a bus with orange-clad passengers near the Ewarton Community Centre in St Catherine.

During the search, a male dressed in orange clothing was searched and a loaded 9mm Ruger pistol was found. He was arrested and later charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.

Detective Inspector Steadman Bailey, crime officer for the Linstead police, said lawmen will continue the fight to rid the town of illegal guns.

"It was a strategic action by the investigators which led to the seizure of the gun, and we will continue to work against criminals," Bailey said.

Meanwhile, it was revealed that this gun seizure is the fourth firearm to be recovered by the police in the past week.
