Disabled man freed of sex charge

February 16, 2016

A wheelchair-bound man accused of sexually molesting a teenager was freed in the Spanish Resident Magistrate's Court recently.

The man, who hails from Portmore, St Catherine, was freed after the Crown failed to make a prima facie case against him.

When the evidence collected against him were outlined, he was told that there were discrepancies in the complainant's

statement.

The Crown had led evidence that in 2013, he allegedly fondled the child and also bit her on her vagina. The complainant is said to have revealed the ordeal to her parents. A report was made to the police and he was charged with grievous sexual assault.

He has made numerous court appearances and maintained his innocence throughout.
