Guns, ammunition seized in Westmoreland, Hanover
Police officers attached to Savanna-la-Mar and Sandy Bay police stations seized two firearms and several rounds of ammunition in separate incidents in their respective areas on Tuesday.
The first incident occurred at about 11 a.m. at a plaza along Great George Street in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland, when a shop was searched and a 380 pistol with six 380 rounds were found. An additional forty-nine 380 rounds of ammunition were found in a sock in a section of the shop.
Consequently, 34-year-old Pete Burton of Farm Pen, Westmoreland, was arrested and charged for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition. He is scheduled to appear before the Western Regional Gun Court today.
The second incident took place at about 1 p.m. along the Sandy Bay main road in Hanover when a man was accosted by the police and his premises searched. One Crvena Zastava 9mm pistol with a magazine containing three 9mm rounds of ammunition was found. He was subsequently arrested in connection with the find. However, his identity is being withheld pending further investigations.
