While being robbed ...

A policeman accidentally shot himself with his own service firearm as he pulled the weapon on two men who were robbing him last Thursday night, The Star understands.

The high drama occurred shortly after 8 p.m. on St Johns Road in St Catherine, police said.

The injured cop, a corporal who works in the St Catherine North Division, has since been admitted to hospital, The Star was told.

Information reaching The Star is that the policeman was driving his private motor car along the roadway when he was stopped by two men. The men reportedly robbed him of $3,000.

During the robbery, the policeman was attempting to brandish his licensed firearm from his waist, but the gun went off shooting him in the lower section of his body.

Upon hearing the gunshot, the robbers fled and escaped in the area on foot.

Police said the injured cop was then rushed to hospital. Police have since launched a manhunt for the two robbers.
