EOJ disappointed with low voter turnout
Jamaica's 17th General Election that was held on Thursday saw just under half the electorate turning out to cast their ballots.
THE STAR understands that a preliminary report from the Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) states that a total of 870,663 persons voted.
The total eligible voters are 1,824,412.
According to the data, 47.7 per cent of eligible voters cast their ballots on Thursday.
The figures dipped when compared to 53.17 per cent in 2011, with 876,310 electors voting.
Director of the EOJ, Orrette Fisher said he was disappointed more persons had not exercised their right to vote.
There were reports of low voter turnout by both major political parties.
