12-y-o beaten naked, father charged
A father who admitted he was struggling to deal with a sudden change in behaviour of his 12-year-old son was sentenced to 12 months' probation for using an electrical cord to beat the boy while he was naked.
The father had been charged with unlawful wounding and cruelty to a child.
He pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding and offered the court an explanation, however, he said he was not guilty of cruelty to a child.
"I use mistake using the wrong thing. Is 12 years I have him, and he is getting out of hand," The father explained to Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey.
The court was told that the child went to visit his aunt and did not return home because he spent the night at her house.
He returned home and after taking a shower and coming from the bathroom, the accused used an electrical cord to beat his son severely, causing injuries, and he did not take him to a doctor.
The court heard that the child has since been relocated to live with his mother.
The father, however, told Pusey that he would like to get back his son.
Pusey then handed down her sentence where the accused will be on supervised probation for one year, where he will learn parenting skills.
The cruelty to a child charge was later admonished and discharged.
