Robbers killed during confrontation with police
Two men were killed during an alleged confrontation with the police in Montego Bay, St James, on Sunday after they reportedly held up and robbed a Chinese businessman.
Information reaching THE STAR is that the deceased men, whose identities are being withheld, engaged the police team in an alleged shoot-out following which they were shot and killed.
The incident happened about 2 p.m. along Orange Street in the parish.
Senior Superintendent Steve McGregor, head of the St James police, told THE STAR yesterday that his officers recovered two pistols from the robbers.
"Our patrol team was nearby and challenged the men. A bag containing money was also recovered," McGregor revealed.
THE STAR understands that the businessman was not harmed during the process and the amount of money contained in the bag was not confirmed.
The St James police said investigations are ongoing in the matter which has been reported to the Independent Commission of Investigations.
