Killer to be sentenced next week
A St Catherine man who stabbed another to death six years ago pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter when he appeared in the St Catherine Circuit Court on Monday.
He is Jerome Powell, a 23-year-old labourer of Browns Hall District in the parish. Powell is charged with the murder of 17-year-old Nikko Johnson from Browns Hall.
When Powell appeared before Justice Bertram Morrison, he pleaded guilty to manslaughter. He was remanded until March 18, 2016, when he is to be sentenced.
Allegations are that on July 31, 2010, Powell and Johnson had a dispute when a knife was brought into play. The Crown led evidence that Johnson was stabbed in the abdomen. He was later rushed to the Spanish Town Hospital where he died as a result of the injuries received.
Investigation by Detective Corporal Adrian Anderson resulted in Powell being charged with murder.
Powell is being represented by attorney-at-law Ricardo Sandcroft.
