Man burnt for politics

An old woman who thought it necessary to defend her political party in an argument with a relative is facing the perils of prison having been accused of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.

Beverly Nunez, 65, of Anderson Avenue, Bridgeport in Portmore, St Catherine, is said to have doused a 37-year-old man with a corrosive substance following an argument.

The police report that on February 24, Nunez and a male relative had a dispute over politics.

Nunez reportedly got angry and went inside her house. She returned with a bottle containing a corrosive substance, which allegedly she caused to be spilled on her relative.

The relative received severe burns to his left hand, side and leg. He had to be treated at hospital.

Nunez was subsequently arrested and charged. She is booked to appear in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on March 22.
