12-year-old daughter molested - Convicted father faces life imprisonment

March 12, 2016

A 52-year-old man now faces life imprisonment after being convicted in the St Catherine Circuit Court of molesting his 12-year-old daughter.

A jury, after retiring for 45 minutes, returned a unanimous guilty verdict yesterday.

The man was found to have molested his daughter while the child visited him in 2013.

He is to be sentenced on March 18, having been found guilty of incest.

Under Jamaican laws, the offence of incest is committed by a male person who willingly has sexual intercourse with another person knowing that the other person is his grandmother, mother, sister, daughter, aunt, niece or granddaughter.

A person who commits the offence of incest is liable on conviction in a Circuit Court to imprisonment for life.
