Orange thieves convicted
Two St Catherine residents who were found guilty of stealing oranges valued at $292,000 are to be sentence on May 9, 2016.
Those convicted of praedial larceny are labourers Junior Walters and Jason Baugh of Bog Walk.
When the matter was tried in the Linstead Resident Magistrate's Court, Resident Magistrate Tara Reid-Carr told the two accused that the court found them guilty as charged. Walters, who was on a six-month suspended sentence at the time he was caught, was ordered remanded by the court.
Baugh's bail was extended until the sentencing.
The court led evidence that on January 2, 2013, security personnel from Trade Winds Citrus were on patrol at New Hall, St Catherine, when they caught Baugh and Walters in a truck which had 146 bags of oranges.
They were held and the matter reported to the Bog Walk police. An investigation launched by District Constable Evan Chambers resulted in the men being charged.
