Voting on social media to select the 24 finalists who will participate in the finale of the JN Small Business Loans (JNSBL) Barber and Beauty Expo started yesterday and will close on March 31.

The top 24 - six barbers, six hairdressers, six nail technicians, and six make-up artists - will participate in the JNSBL Barber and Beauty Battle and Expo for a chance to win a share of the $2.4 million cash prize. The expo will be held at the National Indoor Sports Centre on April 10.

Jason McNeish, chairman of the JNSBL Barber and Beauty Planning Committee, said: "Our judges have selected the top 24 persons from the four categories and it is now time for the public to vote for their favourite barber, hairdresser, nail technician and make-up artists."

Members of the public are invited to 'like' their favourite barber, hairdresser, nail technician and make-up artist on the JNSBL Barber and Beauty Battle Facebook page.

Voters will also have the option to 'like' the best work of their favourite contestant in each category. Subsequently, the top six barbers and top six hairdressers from the online voting round will battle with last year's winners, barber Sly Scott and hairdresser Lakayda Brown, for a $500,000 cash prize.

"We were impressed by the level of participation, especially in our new categories, as the make-up artists and nail technicians submitted top-quality work to showcase their skills," said McNeish.

The idea of the 2015 competition emerged from a conversation, between Earl Jarrett, general manager of Jamaica National Building Society, and his barber. Last year's exciting challenge events took place over a six-week period. It ended with Scott and Brown winning.
