Big drug seizures in three parishes

Police have seized almost $30 million worth of drugs in three operations across three parishes. The seizures were made on Wednesday.

In the first incident, 16 garbage bags with vegetable matter resembling ganja were seized along with four vehicles. Two persons were also taken into custody. Their names are, however, being withheld pending further investigations.

Some hours later, about 2:10 p.m., while on a similar operation, lawmen attached to the Area-3 Narcotics Division seized 200 pounds of ganja that was found in a tarpaulin in an open lot in Burnt Savannah in St Elizabeth. The ganja has an estimated street value of approximately $1.4 million. No one was arrested in connection with this seizure.

About 3:30 p.m., during a search of an airplane destined for England, nine rectangular shaped containers were found in a garbage bin with approximately 7 1/4 pounds of cocaine. The cocaine seized has an estimated street value of approximately $28 million. No one was arrested in connection with this seizure.
