Health Ministry gets $100,000 towards ZIKV fight

Contributed Minister of Health, Dr. the Hon. Christopher Tufton (R), Ms. Anne Chang, Director, Fontana Pharmacy (L) and Dr. Sonia Copeland (C), Director, Health Promotion and Protection Branch hold a discussion on zika virus prevention messages during the handover of cheque valued at $100,000 by Fontana Pharmacy.

Fontana Pharmacy has donated $100,000 to the Health Ministry to assist in fighting the Zika virus and the company has also developed an educational flyer to about the virus.

While accepting the cheque during the brief handover, Minister of Health Dr Christopher Tufton expressed thanks for the ongoing support to fight Zika virus in Jamaica.

"I am very grateful for this contribution from Fontana Pharmacy to help in the fight against Zika virus, as well as all the other partners, so far, as the Government needs all the support it can get. The educational flyer developed will also serve as an additional source of information for the public," he said.

This is not the first time that Fontana Pharmacy has partnered with the health ministry. In 2014, the company came on board during the chikungunya outbreak.

The educational flyers are being distributed throughout the company's pharmacies islandwide. Additional distribution points are being considered.
