The Jamaica Public Service (JPS) says it is unsure when some customers will regain electricity following power outages which affected parishes islandwide yesterday.

At press time last night, Director of Corporate Communications at JPS, Winsome Callum, said their team was working on rectifying the issue, which was caused by several of their generating units going offline simultaneously. "We are not able at this point to say what caused the units to go offline or how soon we'll have everybody back on. This could take a while because of the pretty involved process of ramping up units before energising the lines," she said.

Callum said about 30 per cent of the affected customers were restored with electricity last night.

She added: "We appreciate the patience and understanding of our customers as we continue our efforts to get the power back on safely and quickly".
