No charges as yet in multi-million dollar drug bust

April 18, 2016

Up to late last night, the police were tight-lipped as to whether a British woman held with J$13 million worth of cocaine on Saturday has been charged.

The woman, whose name police have declined to release, was arrested by detectives attached to the Narcotics Division, after 11.36 kilos (25lb) of cocaine was found in her luggage at the Sangster's International Airport in Montego Bay, St James.

Contacted yesterday, the police said no further information can be given at this time as further investigations are being conducted. The police said subsequent information will be released in due time.

The police reported that at about 3:30 p.m., officers approached the suspect and requested a search of her luggage. On closer inspection of her luggage, the drug was found hidden in false compartments.

She was then accosted and detained for questioning.
