Jamaican woman raped in Trinidad
Jamaica's High Commissioner to Trinidad and Tobago, David Prendergast, says he is closely monitoring the case of a Jamaican woman who was raped in twin-island republic on Sunday.
The 26-year-old Jamaican woman was reportedly ambushed and raped at her Orchard Gardens, Chaguanas home.
Trinidad and Tobago police reports indicate that the woman was entering her home when a man placed a knife to her throat and demanded she hand over her valuables to him. According to official reports, when the woman said she had nothing, she was forced into her house and raped by the man.
The woman alerted her neighbours who called the police. She was rushed to a nearby hospital where she received medical treatment.
Prendergast told THE STAR that the Commission is aware of the incident and has made contact with the Chaguanas police.
The Chaguanas Police Station told THE STAR yesterday that no suspect has been arrested and investigations into the incident continue.
